LANGUAGE ARTS
Our literacy block runs for 2 hours each day. We usually start off with 45-60 minutes of small group reading instruction in the form of guided reading. If students are not working in a small group with teacher support during this time, they are working on reading responses from their group work the previous day. We rotate each day, so that direct teacher support is given to as many students as possible in throughout the week. Following this, we work on writing. Our writing program compliments our reading program and vice versa. We study various genres in reading and then explore their text forms in our writing block. This way, we not only learn to find our voice as writers, but also practice writing in various forms, and learn to identify when each is useful in real life context.
